Which flower for which occasion — a short guide
When you choose flowers, the occasion suggests the colour and the shape. Here is a short guide: which flowers suit which occasion, and what is better to avoid.
Birthday
Bright, cheerful colours work best for a birthday: yellow, orange, fuchsia. Gerberas, sunflowers, garden roses and a seasonal mix are all good choices. If you know the person's favourite flower, choose that — it is the most personal gift of all.
Love and anniversaries
Nothing says love more directly than a red rose. For a gentler gesture choose pink roses, peonies or ranunculus. For a big date, 51 or 101 roses leave an unforgettable impression.
Thank you
Soft pastel colours express gratitude: pink, peach, white. For a teacher, a doctor or a colleague, a compact bouquet or a basket that needs no vase works well.
Sorry
For an apology a calm palette is best: white, cream, pale pink, lavender. White roses and hydrangeas stand for sincerity and a fresh start.
Get well
For a hospital a basket or a box is better — there is often no vase. Choose light, delicate flowers; strongly scented lilies are not right for this moment. Before sending, check whether the ward accepts flowers.
Weddings and engagements
White and cream flowers are the classic: roses, peonies, lisianthus, orchids. The bridal bouquet has to match the style of the dress, so we plan it in advance together with the florist.
What to avoid
- By tradition flowers are given in odd numbers in Georgia; even numbers are associated with mourning. In large bouquets nobody counts any more.
- Some people see yellow flowers as a sign of parting. If that matters to the recipient, choose another colour.
- Strongly scented flowers can be overwhelming in a small room or an office.
